About

Hedgehog House Nursery is a small independent family run nursery which was established in 1987. Our ethos is to provide a friendly home from home setting, where the children feel happy, safe, and secure. We are a small nursery with a long-established team of staff, so the staff get to know all the children very well and the children form good attachments with all the staff. This provides a secure foundation which enables the children to thrive and flourish.

The nursery comprises of two large playrooms, both of which overlook our beautiful large garden. Our playrooms are well equipped with a wide range of resources and activities that cover the seven areas of learning set out by the Early Years Foundation Stage. In addition, we have the ever-popular home corner, accessible arts and crafts area and book corner.
We have a large, secure walled garden which is filled with beautiful trees, shrubs and flowers providing welcome shade on hot sunny days with a large lawn which the children love to run and play on. We have a large patio, mud kitchen, shepherds hut and Wendy house.

There is a variety of outside play equipment including sand and water play, bikes and cars and a climbing frame. We have a secure pond with fish and frogs which the children like to observe. We also have a chicken run with a variety of chickens. The children enjoy looking for eggs each day and take it in turns to take an egg home for tea.
We provide a child centred stimulating learning environment which supports the children’s interests and their developmental stages. We provide a mixture of free flow play and adult led activities, which is explained in more detail in the Educational Aims section.

Children learn by playing, and the staff join the children in their play, providing support in communication and language, scaffolding play and supporting the children to extend and develop their play to the next stage.
